Welcome to A2

A big welcome to all new A2 students from JRCS and all other consortium schools! These are the texts that you will need to acquire for next year's course...

1)'The Bloody Chamber'Angela Carter (Coursework)
2)'Frankenstein' Mary Shelley (Coursework)
3)'The Duchess of Malfi' John Webster (Exam - to be compared to Donne)
4)'Othello' William Shakespeare (Exam)

We will supply you with copies of the poems we will be exploring, notably, John Donne (and a work book for annotations - oh, yes!) and a selection for your coursework to compare with the two other Gothic texts.

Run up to the exams...

Here are the details of our class discussions on exam preparations...

Week Beginning 24/5/10: Lessons as normal as possible
01/06/10: Revision Day 9:00-till when we last (3-4ish?)
Week Beginning 07/06/10: Lesson as normal as possible
14/06/10: Seminar in Hospitality Suite (with morning tea and lunch)

15/06/10: Exam 2:00pm

Student lesson this week...

Thank you for delivering your mini lessons this week on the key themes in the text. It has been noted that some of you went into great detail and depth when planning your lessons.

Sam Ellis is teacher of the week this week for the quality and variety of activities within his lesson. It was well paced and delivered confidently. – Well done Sam.

The challenge is now on for the second group delivering their lessons next week!!

Arrangements for the Duchess of Malfi at The Grennwich Theatre..

Here are the details for Wednesday night...

Meet at Becontree at 5pm;
1 hour travel time to Greenwich;
Quick dinner somewhere casual before show;
Show starts at 7.30;
Should finish no later than 10.30;
Home by 11.30 (Carl if this is too late, I'll call your mum and make sure it's okay!)

Bosola and the Cardinal

You are to compare the two main encounters of Bosola and the Cardinal. You need to Review Act 1 Sc 1 27 – 65, the first short interaction between the two characters.

What is the main difference between the tone of the encounters?
Who holds the upper hand in each?
Both are men who hold double lives. How do they wear this mantle?Referring the Act 5 Sc2, respond to the following statement: the Cardinal’s ennui is the ennui of everyone who runs out of steam living two lives or living by double standards? How far do you agree with this statement?
